The Feral Cow Cinema: TMNT Mutant Mayhem

When people travel, many of them choose one thing to focus on as they make their trek around the world. For some, it could be collecting postcards; for others, it might be how many tours they can book and experience. For the Californian family with a love for movies? It’s seeing a movie in each country that we visit. What better way to start off this collection of cinema than some Mutant Mayhem?

You heard that right! On Saturday, the 5th of August, we woke up far too late (1pm to be precise) and far too tired to do much of anything. There’s nothing better to do on a day of recovery from a 12-hour bus tour than sit in the dark, eat popcorn, and watch mutated turtles kick ass.

I haven’t been to a European movie theater, and I knew it wasn’t going to be too different from American theaters… but the Dublin Cineworld literally blew me away. First of all, the posters were killer; they had so many to pose with! Including a poster for The Meg 2, which I am WAY too excited for. The outside of the theater was also decked out for The Meg, with a poster the length of the building!

Along with the posters, there was a certain feature that really impressed my family and I. What was this feature, you may be asking? The Baskin Robbins that was INSIDE the theater, that’s what! Jamie and I both got a chocolate shake to go with our popcorn, a combination that really pulled the movie going experience together, in my opinion.

Overall, the Dublin Cineworld was amazing. It had such a nice atmosphere, and that Baskin Robbins was a delicious surprise.

The reason that we experienced this lovely theater in the first place is also the second part of this post, and that would be the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When I first saw the trailer to this movie, I knew that it was going to be good. The animation style was reminiscent of hand drawn animation, and that fit the turtles so well! Their designs were also unique and stylized, and that showed in the film nicely.

In the film itself, the turtles are personified as teenagers first, rather than heroes. They aren’t inherently the turtles that we know and love, battling their enemies in the New York streets. They’re just teenagers, who watch anime (Donnie), want girlfriends (Leo), make bad jokes (Mikey), and probably need therapy (Ralph). It’s such a great, feel good film, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has an hour and twenty minutes to kill. It’s also an amazing reboot of the original content, and I really hope they continue with it… as they hint towards in the mid credits scene! (You can’t have a movie without a mid/end credits scene nowadays, and I usually don’t argue.)

To end off this first edition of The Feral Cow Cinema, I will leave you with some photos of Jamie and I being devoured by a megalodon shark, because that is high quality content.

Until next time!
